Gambacunkou Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Himalayan South Belt. The Gambacunkou Formation wide distributed in the Gamba and Tingri area, southern Tibet. The Gambacunkou Formation was named by Wang Yigang et al. (1980). Wan Xiaoqiao (1985) and Wan Xiaoqiao et al. (2000) subdivided the lower part as the Lengqingre Fm, and referred the Gambacunkou Formation to the middle and upper part. The new definition of the Gambacunkou Formation includes the Lower member (or XiawuchuboMember Fm) and the Upper member (or JiubaoMember Fm).

Lithology and Thickness
The Gambacunkou Formation is a group of yellowish green shale and thin-bedded limestone. The Lower (XiawuchuboMember Fm) member is composed mostly of yellowish green shale intercalated with thin bedded marls, and the Upper (JiubaoMember Fm) member consists of inter-beddings of yellowish grey shale and thin bedded limestones. The formation is 200~209 m in thickness

Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It overlies conformably on the Lengqingre Fm.
Upper contact
It underlies conformably under the Zongshan Fm.
Regional extent
The Gambacunkou Formation is distributed in the Gamba and Tingri area, southern Tibet.

Fossils
The Gambacunkou Formation contains abundant fossils. It yields foraminifera, ammonites, bivalves, and sea urchins. Planktonic foraminifera are dominated by Maiginotruncana schneegansi, M. coronata, M. sigali, Hedbergella planispira, H. delrioensis, H. holmdelensis and others.

It is of continental shelf facies.
